Deputy Chairman of the Commission in charge of administration Dr. Bossman Asare
The Electoral Commission (EC) has admitted that although the decision to revert to its old logo would cost them some money, the cost involved will be minimal.
This was disclosed by a Deputy Chairman of the Commission in charge of administration Dr. Bossman Asare in an interview with TV3’s Edward Kwabi in Accra.
His comments come on the back of EC’s announcement that it is going back to the old logo of the Commission which was changed by former Chairperson of the Commission Charlotte Osei.
In April 2016, the EC unveiled a new logo as part of efforts to re-brand the Commission.
The new logo generated some controversy across the country with many saying that the logo change was unnecessary while others were not pleased with the cost involved.
According to Dr. Bossman Asare, the changes will cost the EC very little.
“It is not like there is a significant figure. Even the letterhead if I mention the figure, it is something around GHC15,000 which was going to be the same amount we were going to pay for the logo we are no longer using, so clearly it is not like additional money.”
“As I said, it is not about branding…Looking at the nature of our work, if we are spending let’s say GHC20, 000 to change some of these things I do not think it is a lot of money.” Dr. Asare said.
He said the old logo has always been there, and that it is easier to go back to it.
“We see it as an administrative way of doing things, because when you look at our budget for 2019, we do not have any line for replacement of logo, so it will end up being part of our routine administrative cost.”
