Some Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) operating in the Northern Region have pledged their support to the implementation of the Dagbon peace roadmap presented to the government by the Committee of Eminent Chiefs chaired by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

After a meeting held in Tamale, the Executive Director of the Northern Ghana Network for Development (NGND), Mr Theophilus Dokurigu Alhassan and the President of the Dagbon Forum (DF), Dr Sulemana Abudulai jointly signed a communiqué and pledged to create a platform for monitoring, responding, designing and implementing early warning systems to prevent potential threats against the roadmap.

They called on other international and local donor agencies and institutions to support the peace process in any way they can.

The group further commended the work of the Committee of Eminent Chiefs aimed at bringing normalcy to the Dagbon ‘state’ and urged all stakeholders in the age-long chieftaincy impasse to support the proposed roadmap. They said all legal and administrative arrangements related to the peace process should be completed and publicized without delay to avoid misinformation and misinterpretation.

The Asantehene-led mediation committee presented the final roadmap to President Nana Akufo-Addo on 21 November 2018. The committee resolved that the Abudu and Andani royal families should perform the funerals of the late Ya Na Mahamadu Abdulai IV and Ya Na Yakubu Andani II on 14 December 2018 to 28 December 2018; and 4 January 2019 to 18 January 2019, respectively.

The statement further cautioned the people against the politicization of the roadmap and urged both royal families to consider the wider and long-term interest of the area in order to ensure peace and stability.
