Where’s the $1bn withdrawn to fight Boko Haram??? – Fayose tackles FG

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has revealed that the army  is yet to access the $1 billion approved by the Federal Government for procurement of arms to fight the raging Boko Haram insurgency in the North East.

Speaking to newsmen in Maiduguri on Sunday, Buratai said “you know the process of funding is another major issue. The bureaucracy and so on is (are) another issue. Approvals are given but before you really get the money out is another challenge.

“So, the people are talking or the media have been talking of $1 billion that has been approved but I tell you up till today, the fund that is supposed to come from that amount to the army in particular, is still in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Reacting to the revelation, immediate past governof Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose rcalled how he kicked against the Federal Government decision to withdraw $1bn from the Excess Crude Account to fund the fight against Boko Haram. In a post via his Twitter account on Sunday, fayose is therefore asking for the $1bn.

He wrote:

12 months ago, I kicked against the FG decision to withdraw $1bn from the Excess Crude Account to fund the fight against Boko Haram. Three days ago, the military said it was yet to receive the $1bn. So I ask, where is the money? May God save our country.
