The Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs Directorate of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Mr. Oswald Essuah Mensah has urged Ghanaians especially healthcare providers to embrace the NHIS mobile membership renewal technology to improve upon quality healthcare services delivery in the country.
According to him, National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has adopted strategic communication plan for NHIS mobile membership renewal and authentication project by changing and taking in a new face of the Scheme to promote access to quality healthcare for all especially poor and vulnerable.
Mr. Essuah Mensah made this known during his presentation on NHIS Mobile membership renewal and Authentication /ILO project in Cape Coast when he met Central Regional press corps with a called to assist the authority to educate the public about the benefits of the new technology.
He explained that the operations of the technology involves the use of short code *842*10# on all networks in the country and charged the telecommunications to effectively improve their coverage across the country.
Mr. Essuah Mensah believed the introduction of new technology would allow healthcare providers or members to renew their policies at comfort of their homes and without having to queue at the various district offices of NHIS.
“It gives clients options to check policy validity, renewal of membership, benefit packages as well as over 100 medicines list for only one cedis per every renewal” he added.
According to him, NHIS Mobile renewal available to all members but free for pregnant women and indigents.
Mr. Essuah Mensah encouraged the general public to enroll on to the NHIS scheme and hope by next year almost all Ghanaians will get NHIS membership card to increase renewal and enrollment rates by 20% to boost the healthcare delivery system.
