Defaulted students have up to Wednesday, December 5, 2018 to register for the exams
Students of Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) who could not pay for their fees have been given the opportunity to do so to enable them sit for their remaining papers.
This comes after a meeting between the management of the school and the Student Representative council (SRC) on Monday.
A circulation to the student body after the meeting said defaulted students have up to Wednesday, December 5, 2018 to register.
The arrangement is an aftermath a protest by the students of the school last Sunday which resulted in the cancellation of two of their examination papers.
“The management of the school have decided to reschedule the papers that were cancelled yesterday to another day” said in the circulation by the SRC president, Emmanuel Kumah.
In addition, the management of the school have given go ahead for the students on scholarship to also partake in the examination.
The management and the SRC also agreed to allow affected students who could not write the previous exams to write it as a resit exams.
The SRC president however said students on the students’ loan trust fund would not be allowed to write the exams.
Background
The peaceful protest, which nearly turned chaotic, was against management for not allowing some students to take part in the exams over non-payment of fees in full.
The students, who were clad in red and black apparel, stormed the school’s campus and called for the immediate removal of the newly inducted rector of the institute, Professor Kwabena Kwansah-Aidoo.
According to the school’s regulations, continuing students are supposed to pay at least 60% of their fees in the first semester before they will be allowed to register their courses and partake in the exams.
