Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has urged the Akufo-Addo led government, especially the Energy Minister, Peter Amewu to be truthful to Ghanaians on the current energy crisis.

He believes the power crisis, popularly known as ‘dumsor’, is a financial problem which if not resolved, could affect their chances in 2020.

During the peak of the outages last week, the Minority accused government of failing to pay debts owed the power producers.

The failure to pay these debts in their view was the cause of the outages.

But the Energy Minister, Peter Amewu at a joined press conference with ECG, VRA, and GRIDCO on Monday in Accra said the Minority’s claims were untrue.

Although he admits that there still remains debts to be settled, he denied it was the reason for the outages.

But the controversial MP on Adom TV’s morning show “Badwam” Tuesday said the NPP has run out of excuses after two years in power hence have to solve the problems they had accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of failing to fix while in power.

He believes the challenges were due to financial issues and not technical challenges as was earlier announced.

“The energy minister and his team should be straightforward and speak the truth about the issue because I believe it’s a financial problem,” he stated.

Mr Agyapong stated that inasmuch as the NPP would have criticised the NDC on the same issue, the Energy Minister has no excuse.

“They should solve the problem. Look for money and solve the issue because it’s not an excuse, we’ve gone two years and we can’t blame Mahama again for Dumsor. If NPP were to be in opposition, we would have criticised the NDC on this issue and so I won’t keep quiet but to tell my government to also fix the issue,” he stated.
