I’m not entirely disappointed with our campaign – Mukarama Abdulai

Ghana may have exited the ongoing FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay at the quarter final stage, but captain Mukarama Abdulai believes there were many positives to take away from the competition.

The Maidens were disappointingly beaten on penalties by Mexico, after the game ended 2-2 after regulation time, despite the Maidens leading twice.

Ghana were highly tipped by many pundits to go all the way after their stellar performance in the group stages, picking up maximum points and scoring 10 goals in the process.

Although the Maidens, in the end, were far off from winning the ultimate prize, Mukarama, who scored 7 goals at the competition, breaking Jane Ayieyam’s record of the most goals scored by a Ghanaian at the competition, says she is comforted by her exploits at the competition.

“I’m very happy, although I’m also a bit sad that we didn’t won the ultimate prize. I set a record at the competition and i’m very proud of that,” she said.

“Scoring 7 goals at a world cup is a big achievement and I’m very happy.”

Mukarama is still 3 goals ahead of the nearest challenger for the top scorer award, and could still win it despite Ghana’s elimination.
