Ghana set to increase tourist arrivals from USA

Ghana is working on a marketing strategy that has the potential to increase its estimated US market arrivals by 107,000 tourists next year.

The strategy, including the recently launched ‘Year of Return, Ghana 2019’ programme to mark 400 years since the first slave ship landed in America with slaves from Africa, is expected to increase inbound tourism from US to Ghana from 243,000 tourists to about 350,000 within the year, says Akwasi Agyemang, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).

He estimates that the programme will help generate revenues of approximately USD $771 million at the current average tourist spend of $2,203.
