Mr Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Minister for Youth and Sports has launched the “Youth in Sports” program, aimed at creating jobs for a sustainable youth development in the sports sector.

The program, which saw the first batch of 750 youths trained in various aspect of sports management and maintenance were drawn from all regions across Ghana.

Mr. Asiamah said, as part of efforts of the government to stay committed to its promises, it collaborated with other institutions to secure jobs for the future leaders of the nation.

“It has been the agenda of this Government to develop and create a sustainable job for the youth of Ghana, where we would enroll young and dedicated men and women in various fields”.

According Mr Asiamah, sports was a major tool for job creation and crime prevention and should be critically looked at, to produce active future leaders to take the nation forward.

Mr Ibrahim Bashiru, Deputy Chief Executive (CEO) for youth and employment agency, in an interview noted that the youth have been trained to manage and cater for all sports-related issues.

“Today we are passing out 750 energetic youth and by Saturday another 750 would pass out.

“They have gone through intensive training in pitch maintenance, pitch management, colts coaching, cleaning and other sporting related activities.

“We are looking to enroll over 5000 people at the end of the program, which would be very sustainable and beneficial to Ghana”.

The launching was under the auspices of the sports ministry, ministry of employment and relations and the National Youth Authority.
