Cape Town security firm fined R30,000 after weapons seized

The Hawks have issued an administrative fine of R30,000 to a security company, following the seizure in July last year of firearms and flawed firearm permits from its guards in Cape Town.

The Hawks swooped on the security guards when they escorted alleged 28’s gang boss Ralph Stansfield to a court in Khayelitsha, Cape Town.

“For protection services they were rendering a service. When the police enquired on the arms of the security company, that is when it was established that the permits that they had were questionable. The firearms were then seized,” Hawks spokesperson Captain Philani Nkwalase said on Friday.

He said further investigation led to the company being fined this week.

In a separate incident, two special revolvers and one shotgun were allegedly found at a security company operating in Crosby, Johannesburg.

Nkwalase said the three firearms would form part of an ongoing investigation into 184 firearms seized from various security companies in August.

No arrests have been made.
