Ghana’s Under-17 female football team coach, Evans Adotey, has described as a very important exercise and a good outcome, his side’s trial match against Brazil club side, America FC which the Maidens won 4-0 in Sao Paolo on Saturday.

The Maidens are in Brazil to round off their preparations ahead the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay next week, and on Saturday Coach Adotey’s side showed their readiness for the competition with the emphatic win over the Brazilian club side at the Estadio Mansueto Pierotti in Santos.

Goals from Grace Animah and substitute Mavis Owusu, as well as a brace from Alice Sarpong, gave the Maidens a confidence-boosting result.

Coach Adotey told Graphic Sports Online that he was happy with the performance of the team more than the result, as it was the first time some of the players had been exposed to an international game at that level.

“It was good to know that the girls responded well. However, for us, the focus was more on the performance and adaption. It went well.

“After the qualifying series, this is the first time most of the girls are playing at this level international level so the match was more of an opportunity to see how the girls would react and thankfully, they settled in well,” Adotey said.

“The win may seem flattery but the girls had a good challenge and I’m satisfied with the output.

“However, we are far from our best and the final few days, particularly the second trial game against Cameroun on Tuesday, will provide a better indication about the readiness of the team.”

The Ghana coach identified temporal loss of concentration in the midfield as a deficiency to be worked on before facing Cameroun and expressed hope that the girls would pick up.

After the win on Saturday, the Maidens had their recovery training on Sunday but will launch into a full training session on Monday in readiness for the Cameroun game on Tuesday.

The Maidens are due to leave Brazil on Thursday for the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo where they will be playing their group matches against the hosts, New Zealand and Finland.
