KNUST: Government names 4 representatives for new Council

The four persons will represent government on the KNUST Council

The government has named four persons that will represent them on the yet to be reconstituted Governing Council of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The four are Nana Effah Appenteng, a retired diplomat and Omanhene Bompata Traditional Area; Hilda Haggar Ampadu, an alumnus and public health specialist; Steve Anoff Amoaning-Yankson, president of the Ghana Institute of Engineers; and Mr Alex Quaynor, a private legal practitioner.

The board which was expected to be reconstituted last Friday, November 2, 2018, never materialised as the KNUST branches of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) and the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) accused the Minister of state in charge of Tertiary Education, Prof Kwesi Yankah, of interfering in the unions’ processes in choosing their representatives on the council.

The Chancellor of the university, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has been leading the council reconstitution following its dissolution by the government after students of the university rioted and vandalised the campus over certain grievances, which included the assault of 10 of their colleagues and an alumnus by the school’s internal security.
