Contrary to the perception that rapping is easy as the only thing one has to do is make sure the words rhyme, rapper Medikal says it is quite hard and it takes more than rhyming words to be a success.
According to him, a rapper cannot take education out of the equation. “Education is very key to being a rapper. You just have to learn and it must not come necessarily from sitting in the classroom.
“On your own, you must learn, get some education. It can come from movies, music and others. Pick words, look for their meaning and upgrade your vocabulary,” he told Showbiz.

Medikal said he practised what he preached thus, “A lot of people ask me how I get my punchlines looking at the fact that I am an SHS leaver who went to IPMC to learn Computer Engineering. Yes, that is my qualification but I read a lot. I Google things a lot.”
“As a rapper you should not rhyme just for rhyming sake; you rhyme to make sense, for example on my How Much song, there is a part where I said, my girlfriend is too curvy so I cannot think straight.
“We all know that if something is not crooked or curved it is straight, I had to understand they are opposites for it to work. Having the talent is good but you need to have more so you can go far,” he said.
Medikal said he is hailed today as one of Ghana’s favourite rappers because of his consistency. “I am who I am because of my consistency.

“I have worked hard to get to this point and there has not been any dull moment in my career and it is simple, I do not rest because I have had one hit song.”
Although he is enjoying the fame and all the glamour it comes with including being in a relationship with another celebrity, Sister Deborah, Medikal, whose real name is Samuel Adu Frimpong, admitted that it was not easy to make it big as a rapper in Ghana.
“In Ghana, it is very difficult to break boundaries as a rapper. It is not easy but I thank God for everything. I have been travelling around to play shows etc.
“There are people who feel they are better than I am yet are nowhere close to where I am so I am grateful for the journey so far since I came on board four years ago,” Medikal stated.

And that is why he gives great respect to Sarkodie for staying on top even though the competition is tough. “I respect Sarkodie so much. The guy is good; you cannot overthrow him. He is a great inspiration. I have learnt a lot from him and I am still learning.”
Medikal describes himself as a philanthropist and one who does not joke with the God factor in his life, “I do not joke with God in my life. I take my prayers serious. I also love to give because I believe there is blessing in that.”
