The Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (AITI-KACE) has held a Technology Innovation Seminar in collaboration with the Carnegie Mellon University-Africa.

The Seminar which took place last week was aimed at sharing knowledge and exploring opportunities for learning, research and development in artificial intelligence.

Speaking at the Seminar, Director of the Carnegie Mellon University-Africa (CMU), Professor Vijayakumar Bhagavatula noted that artificial intelligence explores the science of extending the capabilities on human-machine interactions or the creation of intelligent machines that work and react like humans.

He added that it has become expedient that the world pays more attention to artificial intelligence because computers are capable of doing a lot more than before, data have become more available and the fact that man keeps discovering lots of new applications.

He added that there is need for the establishment of technology competitions among Ghanaian children as well as video games among other playing avenues to help develop their interest in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and computing.

He further noted that children would find computing useful only when they see what computers can be used for, adding that when children are exposed to technology and computers at a tender age, it helps them to develop positive attitudes toward Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

The event engaged participants on how young people, the technology and business community as well as Ghana as a country, can harness opportunities inherent in emerging technologies such as Machine Learning, IoT, Robotics, Neural Networks, Natural Language Processing, among others.

The seminar brought together students from different levels of education, including Senior High Schools, undergraduate and post-graduate students, Tech ecosystem, Young professionals thinking of pursuing a Masters in Information Technology and Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering to share knowledge and network.
