Sports News of Tuesday, 30 October 2018
The staff of the National Sports Authority have accused Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah, of abusing his power in an explosive petition to the Board Chairman of the Authority.
The staff also claim there are clandestine attempts by personalities close to the Sports Minister to take over the management of the various sports stadia across the country.
Rex Danquah, a sports consultant whom they accuse of championing the privatization of the management of the national sports facilities, is also alleged to be keeping the site plan of the Accra sports stadium.
The NSA staff want the Board to impress on him to release it to the NSA.
The petition sighted by Citi Sports is signed by the NSA’s Divisional Workers Union and Senior Staff Association chairmen and their secretaries.
The 8-point petition contests the role of the Technical adviser at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Dr. Owusu Ansah, and claims his position is a “usurpation of the of the function of the Technical Department of the NSA.”
The NSA staff also accuse the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Local Organizing Committee for the 2018 Women’s AFCON of disrespect and claim they were overlooked by the two institutions in critical decisions that concerned the NSA.
The Sports Minister, the petition claims, has constantly ordered for or blocked the transfer of key staff members without approval from the NSA board, a power he does not have.
The staff say the NSA is gravely understaffed and fear the authority could become extinct if their functions are constantly being undertaken by the sports ministry.
The staff also warn of an impending demonstration in the coming days.
