Dr Tumi on starting his foundation to spread ‘acts of love’

Dr Tumi couldn’t just sit by and watch the devastation of the Khayelitsha fire, so he roped in a couple of friends to help do one major act of love to help those affected.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, after a successful benefit concert on Sunday, which topped the Twitter trends list Dr Tumi said he had to do something after seeing how much people had lost.

“I decided to get involved in helping with the Khayelitsha crisis because it’s such an overnight life change. Like the one minute those people were fine going about their daily business and the next minute they were homeless with no clothes or food. Having lost everything they had got to me. To realise that people’s lives are forever changed and it happened so quickly for so many people. It struck a nerve with me and I had to get involved.”

TimesLIVE reported that one person was killed and more than 1‚000 shacks destroyed in a raging fire in Khayelitsha‚ Cape Town. More than 4‚000 people were thought to have lost their homes as the fire raged out of control.

Dr Tumi launched his foundation just in time to help with the crisis in Khayelitsha but he explained that a foundation was always a very important part of his brand.

It was meant to be a platform where Dr Tumi could use his influence to help other people who are in need.

“Acts of love is centered around giving and making somebody’s life better. To make people feel loved and to help them through whatever situation they are going through. Any act that does that for people, anything that is that selfless and is just for people, that is an act of love.”

Dr Tumi said he was interested in helping out as much as he could and was glad to have roped in the likes of Lebo Sekgobela, Khaya Mthethwa, Nqubeko and his wife Ntokozo Mbatha.
