The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) has expressed its commitment to ensure that Ghana stages a successful all Africa Games in 2023 after the country was awarded the 13th edition of the pan-African sporting festival.

Ghana put in a successful bid to beat Egypt, host of the fifth All Games in 1991.

At the 3rd Specialised Technical Committee on Youth, Culture and Sports forum of the African Union Commission Ministers’ session in Algiers on Thursday, Ghana won the hosting rights for the continent’s biggest multi-sport competition.

Ghana’s delegation to the Algerian capital was led by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah and included the special advisor to the minister, Dr Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah and Magnus Rex Danquah, a consultant to the ministry.

In a statement on Friday, the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Perry Okudzeto, said the government was delighted Ghana would host the All Africa Games in 2023 as it would open a new chapter for sports in the country.

“The ministry believes this is a unique opportunity to rewrite the scripts of Ghana sports for the next century. The ministry is committed to providing facilities for Ghana to host a successful tournament, as the continental sports event will be staged in Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast,” the statement said.
