Agona Kwanyako (C/R), Oct. 22, GNA – The 16-year-old
chieftaincy dispute between Nana Dr Ampim Darko V, Agona Kwanyakohene and a
breakaway family members led by Opanyin Kofi Amankwa has been amicably settled.
The peaceful settlement followed a report made
to the Central Regional Minister, Mr Kwamena Duncan by the District Chief
Executive for Agona East, Mr Dennis Armah-Frempong, who is also the Chairman of
the District Security Council (DISEC) on the protracted chieftaincy dispute
among the family members in the town.
The Minister immediately set up a five-member
committee under the Chairmanship of Mr Bernard Joe Appeah, a Management
Consultant with reference to ensure that peace returned to Agona Kwanyako.
Other members of the committee are; Dasebre
Kwabu Ewusi VII, the Vice President of the National House of Chiefs and
Omanhene of Abaedze Dominase, Nana Bentumaa Owusu, Queen mother of Agona
Duakwa, Mr Victor Yankson and Reverend Charles Arkoh Nunoo, a retired Central
Regional Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church.
The committee members were also tasked to
investigate into the matter, which prevented five sub-chiefs of Agona Kwanyako
not to enter the Kwanyako Palace if there was any programme or issue bothering
on the development of the town.

Traditional Area to signify the final settlement of the chieftaincy dispute.
Speaking at the function, Mr Duncan praised
the committee for the good work done for finally bringing peace and stability
to Agona Kwanyako and its environs and told the family members to see their
re-union as an honour and forget the past, saying; “where there is no peace
development cannot take place.”
Okofo Katakyi Nyarkoh Eku X, the Omanhene of
Nyakrom Traditional Area expressed gratitude to the parties for smoking the
peace pipe, which he said would enable the government to undertake development
projects in the area for the benefit of the citizenry.
Dasebre Kwabu Ewusi, who spoke on behalf of
the Committee Chairman, Mr Joe Appeah urged the family members to abide by the
rules and regulations governing the stool in order to sustain the peace.

members thanked the Central Regional Minister, the Omanhene of Nyakrom
Traditional Area, Osaberima Bishop Boapiah Afriyie, the Omanhene of Nsaba
Traditional Area, and the District Chief Executive, Mr Armah-Frempong for their
efforts at settling the chieftaincy dispute and bringing the family together.
Nana Dr Ampim Darko, also expressed gratitude
to the committee for the amicable settlement of the dispute and gave the
assurance that they would work in harmony to move the family and the entire
Kwanyako forward in development.
Five other sub-chiefs led by Nana Okuta, the
Nifahene of Agona Kwanyako did not participate in the meeting with the excuse
that they were yet to finish reading the committee’s report.
