Video: KNUST students boycott lectures; hold demo over brutalities

Students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have boycotted lectures in protest of what they describe as brutalities in the school.

The Students Representative Council (SRC) said they are continually being treated unfairly by management of the university.

The protest comes on the back of the arrest of some students by police in the Ashanti Region.

A statement by the executive council of the SRC said the demonstration had become necessary to bring an end to what seems to be the neglect on the part of university management.

“The KNUST SRC Executive Council in joint forces with SRC parliamentary Council and all student leaders bring to the notice of all KNUST students that we are embarking on a demonstration today 22nd October 2018. [There will be no lectures]. We have had enough.”

The SRC said: “It must be made known to the council that students were manhandled and even in some cases brutalised, acts we find condemnably atrocious.”

Luv FM reporter, Kwesi Debrah on Adom FM‘s Dwaso Nsem Monday said the students are massing up to prevent a petition to the Univerity authorities.

He indicated that the livid students who believe their rights are being infringed upon have vowed not to return to lecturers until their concerns are resolved.

Authorities of KNUST have denied the claims while calling on students to attend lectures.

They accused some alumni of instigating the students against them.
