Former Speaker of Parliament, Doe Korbla Adjaho has debunked claims by a cross-section of the people of Atsyiame traditional area, in the Akatsi South district of the Volta Region that he is planning with the Awoamefia of the Anlo state, Torgbui Sri III to divide the Atsyiame traditional area.
He said as the immediate past Speaker of the Parliament of the republic of Ghana and an indigenous son of Avenor, his sole aim is to see the area advance in rapid development and not to meddle in chieftaincy issues.
The former Speaker was speaking at the 5th celebration of Atsyiame Tutu Za of the chiefs and people of Atsyiame at Dagbamate over the weekend.
He stated that sometime in 2016, some individuals from Ave-Avenor published spurious and unscrupulous stories about him and the overlord of the Anlo State, Torgbui Sri III to the effect that he and the Torgbui were scheming to divide the Ave-Avenor area and were supporting their favourite candidates as chiefs for gazetting which according to him is unfounded.
He denied playing any role in the elevation of Torgbui Samlafo IV to the status of paramount chief of the Atsyiame traditional area.
Mr. Adjaho cited a daily graphic publication of May 30th, 2016 captioned “Speaker Denies Involvement in Avenor Chieftaincy Matters” to buttress his point.
He further noted that as an illustrious son of Ave-Avenor who would stop at nothing to see the development of the area, he has no personal interest in chieftaincy matters but would continue to contribute his quota to the rapid socio-economic development in the area whiles commending the chiefs and people of Atsyiame traditional area for instituting the Atsyiame Tutu Za, pledging his unflinching support at all times to the development agenda of the people.
This year’s festival was on the theme – Youth Development a Collective Responsibility.
