Ntiamoah Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) engaged in education and health promotion, has organised a durbar at Akyem Hweakwae in the Birim North District to educate parents, teachers and schoolchildren on the importance of having a good education.

The foundation, with support from the Ghana Hope Foundation based in the USA and Stanbic Bank Ghana, has rewarded 36 outstanding pupils from nine basic schools in the district who regularly patronised the foundation’s mobile library and five teachers who encouraged the children to read.

The awardees were presented with flat screen TV sets, pen drives, assorted books, stationery and other educational materials.

At the ceremony, the Executive Director of the Ntiamoah Foundation, Mrs Mercy Quansah Ansah, said the NGO believed in having a strong educational base, which was why it set up the mobile library project in the Birim North District.

She said ‘’most parents and guardians want the best for their children but this can only be achieved if children are given the necessary support”.

Awards

According to Mrs Ansah, the foundation was undertaking an early childhood support programme this year to equip kindergartens with supplementary tools in education such as TV sets, assorted educational toys and electronic learning materials, all aimed at enhancing the learning process to make it more enjoyable for children.

She was hopeful that the awards programme for the participants in the mobile library project would encourage the children and the schools to invest in books and reading.

The Executive Vice-Chairman of the Ntiamoah Foundation, Dr Kojo Pumpuni Asante, said through its Founder, Mr R.K.A. Asante, and support from Ghana Hope Foundation and Newmont Akyem, the NGO contributed to upgrading the New Abirem Health Centre into a fully fledged district hospital.

Support

He said apart from adopting the maternity ward of the health centre, the foundation also donated medical equipment to the health facility every year and also brought in medical experts to perform free surgeries for hernia and other ailments.

Dr Asante said last year, the foundation expanded the scope of its nursing and midwifery scholarships and also sponsored an anaesthetist from the New Abirem Health Centre for further studies.

The Project and Communication Officer with the Ntiamoah Foundation, Mr Shiva Oppong Banahene, urged parents to encourage their children to study hard in order to excel in future.

The Krontihene of Hweakwae, Nana Pinamang Debrah IV, and the Queenmother of the town, Nana Asantewaa Nkyemah, commended the founder of the Ntiamoah Foundation for his foresight and commitment to the development of the Birim North District and urged other prominent citizens who hail from the area to also contribute towards the area’s development.
