Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has described the National Commission for Civic Education as an organization which has deviated from its core mandate of civic education and now focused on propagating an agenda set by the opposition National Democratic Congress to make the governing party and President Akufo-Addo unpopular.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii sen programme, the controversial lawmaker said the NCCE is awash with NDC members and are doing everything possible to cause disaffection for the party.

The lawmaker’s criticisms come on the back of a call by the organization to leaders of the various political parties in the country to disband vigilante groups in their fold. Chairperson of the NCCE, Josephine Nkrumah, had chaired a press briefing to call on all political parties to show their commitment to national stability by disbanding all vigilante groups.

The call came following an attack by some members of NPP pro-vigilante group, Delta Force on Tafo Pankrono MP, Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, while he was holding a meeting with some constituency executives.

Josephine Nkrumah at that press conference said, “After 25 years of democratic governance, it is unacceptable for any group of persons to commit such acts that undermine the rule of law and democracy” adding that “No individual or group of persons can hold the country to ransom under the guise of political party vigilantism”.

But the vociferous NPP MP for Assin Central is of the view the move is a smokescreen for the real agenda set by the NDC and is currently being executed by the National Commission for Civic Education. Kennedy Agyapong threatened to insult the Chairperson of the NCCE if he was dared questioning her motive for such a call.

“If you dare me I’ll insult the chairperson, please don’t dare me…I want any civil society to condemn Delta Forces and Invisible Forces but not the NCCE. They are typical NDC. NCCE? I’ll attack them if you dare me. I have a dossier on them. It’s a useless entity, we need to collapse it.”

He continued, “What do they do now? What civic education? All they do is politics. They shouldn’t even dare me. They should come to us and tell us what exactly they do. I didn’t even know they were the ones calling for the disbanding of Delta and Invisible Forces. The boys[Invisible and Delta Forces] should have even slapped her,” Kennedy Agyapong angrily said on the late afternoon programme hosted by Osei Bonsu.

He made reference to the deafening silence of the NCCE and other Civil Society Groups in 2016 when some judges in Ghana were threatened saying Ghanaians should do well to remember the ills of the NDC some years ago insisting that the NPP remains the best option for the development of Ghana in all spheres.
