Ghana opt out of next season’s CAF inter-club competitions

No Ghanaian clubs will represent the country in the 2018/2019 season of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, the Ghana Football Normalisation Committee has announced during a meeting with club owners in the country.

The deadline for countries to present representatives for next season’s campaigned expired on Monday, but the NC wrote to CAF asking for more time to decide on the country’s participants.

Ghana presents the league champions for the CAF Champions League campaign and the FA Cup winners for the Confederation Cup.

But after football activities ground to a halt following the airing of the Anas Documentary, the league was brought to an abrupt end after 15 matches while the FA Cup competition ended after the first round.

No winners were therefore decided and it left the Normalisation Committee with a dilemma.

But following a stakeholders meeting with clubs, the Dr. Kofi Amoah Committee has now opted against submitting any representatives for next year’s competition.

Aduana Stars represented Ghana in the Champions League last season, getting kicked out in the second round qualifying before eventually dropping down to the Confederation Cup where they finished bottom of their group.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko played in the Confederation Cup but exited the competition after the very first round, losing to Congolese Club CARA Brazzaville.
