Revenue collectors asked to build good relationship with tax payers

Juaso (Ash), Oct. 17, GNA – Mr. Alexander
Frimpong, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asante-Akim South, has
implored revenue collectors of the Assembly to establish a good working
relationship with tax payers in that Municipality.

He also urged them to be polite, courteous and
professional when dealing with clients to encourage voluntary payment of tolls,
rates and fees required to finance programmes and projects of the Assembly.

The MCE who was addressing a capacity building
workshop for revenue collectors of the assembly at Juaso, said being rude to
such key stakeholders could be counterproductive to their work.

The workshop formed part of the Assembly’s
strategic revenue mobilisation drive aimed at improving its revenue generation.

Participants were taken through topics such as
sources of revenue, effective revenue mobilisation, best practices in revenue
mobilisation, stakeholders in revenue mobilisation and importance of revenue to
Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

Mr Frimpong said the elevation of the Assembly
to a municipal status required more resources to execute projects and charged
the collectors to work extra hard to meet financial commitments.

He underlined the need for the collectors to
educate tax payers on how their taxes were used to fund various social
amenities for their own benefit and praised the collectors for their dedication
over the years but urged them to re-double their efforts to rake in more
revenue.

Mrs. Louisa Benon, the Municipal Coordinating
Director said Internally Generated Fund was the Assembly’s lifeblood and called
on stakeholders to support the revenue mobilisation drive.

She entreated the collectors to work hard to
achieve their targets to ensure the Assembly was well positioned to deliver on
its mandate.
