Accra, Oct. 17, GNA – Equatorial Guinea’s
women national team, has been disqualified from this year’s Africa Women Cup of
Nations (AWCON), by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), after being
found guilty of fielding an unqualified player in the match against Kenya.

The Kenya Football Federation in June,
submitted a protest to CAF, questioning the eligibility of six players but
however maintained their protest against Equatorial Guinea player called Anette
Jacky Messomo.

Africa’s football governing body after
listening to all parties involved, the protest found out that, the player in
question as confirmed by the Cameroonian Football federation and had played for
several European clubs, but denied receiving any request from Equatorial Guinea
concerning the change of her nationality.

CAF in their final verdict upheld Kenya’s
protest and sanctioned the Equatorial Guinean Football Federation with a fine
of $10,000 and disqualified from the 2018 AWCON to be hosted in Ghana.

This means Kenya will join host Ghana and six
qualified teams which, includes Nigeria, Cameroon, South Africa, Mali, Algeria
and Zambia in the women’s soccer fiesta to be played November 17 – December 1.
