Let’s make Las Vegas great again: Mayweather accepts Khabib’s challenge

Floyd Mayweather seems to have accepted the challenge thrown down by UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

After beating Conor McGregor at UFC 229 in Las Vegas this month, the 30-year-old Russian fighter addressed the retired boxer alongside the CEO of Mayweather’s promotions company, Leonard Ellerbe, saying “in the jungle there, there is only one king”.

Mayweather, who last year came out of retirement to defeat McGregor in a highly lucrative boxing bout, has fuelled speculation of another comeback by replying to Nurmagomedov on Instagram.

“Let’s make Las Vegas great again,” he said in an apparent reference to the ugly scenes when Nurmagomedov and McGregor’s teams clashed inside and outside the octagon during a wild brawl at UFC 229.

Any potential crossover fight between Nurmagomedov (27-0) and Mayweather (51-0) would be subject to the Russian’s impending suspension as he awaits further punishment for his part in the astonishing melee that spilled into the crowd in Las Vegas.

The two fighters are both unbeaten in their respective careers and Mayweather could be tempted out of retirement again for another huge payday.

In addressing Mayweather, Nurmagomedov said: “Let’s go Floyd, we have to fight now, 51-0 vs 27-0, two guys who have never lost.

“Because in the jungle there is only one king. Of course I am the king because he cannot drop McGregor but I dropped him easily.”

Mayweather teased the idea of throwing off his boxing gloves and jumping into the octagon for a MMA rematch with McGregor, but potentially facing Nurmagomedov would be impacted by the Russian’s likely ban after the brawl at UFC 229.
