Boxing league will produce quality amateur boxers – GABF president

Accra, Oct 15, GNA – Mr. George Lamptey,
President of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation (GABF) has said, he is happy
with the re-introduction of the boxing league, adding “it will give us
good amateur boxers in the future”.

Accra, Oct 15, GNA – Mr. George Lamptey,
President of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation (GABF) has said, he is happy
with the re-introduction of the boxing league, adding “it will give us
good amateur boxers in the future”.

The boxing league has been re-introduced as
the Bukom Fist of Fury and started on Friday, October 12, at the Bukom Boxong
Arena after a nine year hiatus.

Mr. Lamptey, in an interview with the GNA
Sports said the GABF was blessed to have the competition, because it would put
the boxers in competitive spirit, as they would box every two weeks.

“First day so good and you can see all
the bouts were competitive in the juvenile and amateur divisions. The only
obstacle was the rains, as it deterred the crowd from turning up in their
numbers.

“But the boxers demonstrated quality
techniques and some of them could be invited into the national team for
justify,” he said.

“As amateurs you need to throw more
punches and that is exactly what they are doing. This league is going to give
us more experience and the needed exposure to the boxers. We expect to produce
good amateurs who would graduate into good professionals,” he added.

The league is expected to continue every two
weeks and would last for 26 weeks. At Every bout night there would be at least
three professional fights in addition to the juvenile and amateur fights.
