Ghana vs Sierra Leone called off by CAF

The Confederation of African Football has called off Ghana’s AFCON 2019 Qualifier against Sierra Leone after Sierra Leone failed to meet FIFA’s October 9 deadline to re-instate the nation’s FA boss, Isha Johansen and general secretary, Chris Kamara.

Sierra Leone had been suspended by FIFA on October 5 by FIFA for government interference.

The country’s FA had engaged their government to find a solution to the challenge while speaking to FIFA to allow them play the match in Kumasi under a special dispensation condition.

However, FIFA wrote to the Sierra Leone FA  and ordered them to resolve the situation or the ban would stay in place and the match would not go ahead.

After the deadline passed, CAF announced that the match would not be honoured by the two countries since no resolution had been found to the impasse.

Sierra Leone FA boss and the general secretary had been accused of corruption by the country’s Anti-Corruption Commission and had been told to step aside for investigations to be done.

This is what incurred FIFA’s displeasure since it amounted to interference per their rules and eventually led to the suspension.
