Performance of Black Stars players ahead of Sierra Leone game

Accra, Oct. 8, GNA – The Black Stars of Ghana,
will return to the international scene this week, with a double header against
Sierra Leone on October 11 and 15, at Baba Yara Sports Stadium and Freetown
respectively.

In view of this the GNA Sports takes at the
performance of the current players over the weekend ahead of the two crucial
games.

Goalkeepers: Ghana’s number one, Richard
Ofori, who plays in the South Africa’s Premiere Soccer League (PSL), kept a
clean sheet, as he played 90 minutes for team (Maritzburg United) in a goalless
draw at home to Cape Town City FC, whilst Lawrence Ati-Zigi, who plays in the
French League 2, continue to struggle to become a regular starter for his club
Sochaux.

Defender: Harrison Afful and Jonathan Mensah,
both senior members of the team, both played 90 minutes for for Columbus Crew
SC in the Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United State of America (USA), But
lost 3-0 to Montreal Impact FC in an away match.

Nicholas Opoku, was on the bench for Udinese,
as they lost 2-0 at home to inform Juventus team in the Italian serie A on
Saturday, whilst Andy Kyere Yiadom, played full minutes for Reading in the
English Championship, but lost 4-1 to West Bromwich Albion.

Daniel Amartey, played 90 minutes for
Leicester City, in their 1-2 defeat at home to Everton in the English Premiere
League.

Midfielders: Mubarak Wakaso, continued with
his impressive form this season, as he played 74 minutes in his team famous 1-0
victory at home over Real Madrid in the Spanish LaLiga.

Thomas Partey, came in as a substitute in the
66th minutes, as his inclusion helped Atletico Madrid to record 1-0 victory at
home over Real Betis in the Spanish Laliga.

Afriyie Acquah, has become a regular starter
for his new club Empoli. The midfielder played 74 minutes, in their home defeat
to Italian Series A giants; AS Roma, with Christian Atsu, coming on in the 78th
minutes, as his team Newcastle couldn’t hold on to their early two goals lead in
their game against Manchester United and lost 3-2.

Nana Ampomah, the young midfielder who plays
for Belgian side Waasland-Beveren, played full minutes as they drew 1-1 at home
to Oostende in the Belgian top flight league. Kwadwo Asamoah was impressive for
his new club Inter Milan as they won 2-1 away to SPAL in the Italian league.

Forwards: Asamoah Gyan, captain of the side,
who plays for Turkish club, Keyserispor came 
came in as a substitute for another Black Stars player Bernard Mensah,
on the 80th minute, as  they drew 2-2 at
home to Rizespor in the Super Lig.

Richmond Boakye-Yiadom, played the last 18
minutes of his team, Red Star Belgrade in an away victory over FK Zemun in the
Serbia Super Liga, whilst Majeed Warris, played only 30 minutes in his team,
Nantes 3-0 away defeat to Bordeaux in the French Ligue 1.

Emmanuel Boateng, the Levente striker played
84 minutes in the team away win to Getafe in the Spanish League.

Ghana is expected to return from a lone goal
defeat to Kenya in the last AFCON qualifier to beat Sierra Leone to enhance
their chances of winning topping the group.
