Lewis Hamilton Closes In On Fifth Formula 1 Championship

Lewis Hamilton won the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday, which put him firmly in pole position to win his 5th Formula 1 title with four races remaining.

The Brit led from start to finish as he picked up his fourth pole victory on the trot on Sunday morning.

The defending champion finished ahead of his Mercedes teammate Valteri Bottas and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen at Suzuka.

With just four races left before the end of the season, Hamilton has opened up the gap on title rival Sebastien Vettel to 67 points and will secure his fifth Formula 1 title with three races to spare should he win at the USA Grand Prix in two weeks’ time.

It was Hamilton’s fifth win at the Japanese Grand Prix and the 71st of his career, and the Mercedes man will surely clinch championship victory if Vettel does not finish second, or if he out-scores his rival by eight points.
