Three hundred people benefit from Newmont health screening

a four-day free health screening exercise for inhabitants of New Abirem and

5, GNA – The Newmont Golden Ridge Akyem Mine, in collaboration with the
Commission on Urgent Relief and Equipment (CURE) Project of USA, has organised
a four-day free health screening exercise for inhabitants of New Abirem and
Adausena in the Eastern Region.

The exercise was
conducted by a 12-member medical team from the United States of America
comprising doctors, certified nurses and emergency medical technicians.

The people were
screened for hypertension, cholesterol, diabetes, eye problems, stroke and
malaria among other ailments and offered free medication.

They were also
educated on some of the common tropical diseases and healthy living.

The exercise was to
ensure an effective and efficient healthcare delivery in the Birim North
District of the Eastern Region.

Mr Oduro-Kwarteng
Marfo, the Communications and External Relations Manager of the Akyem Mine, in
an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the exercise was a demonstration
of Newmont’s commitment to improving the lives of people within their
operational areas by taking healthcare to their doorsteps.

He said over the
years, the New Abirem Government Hospital, Oda Government Hospital and the Holy
Family Hospital in Nkawkaw and other satellite health facilities in the
District had benefited from medical supplies and equipment from the Newmont and
CURE Project.
