The Joint Business Consultative Forum has reiterated calls for government to back down on the implementation of the Cargo Tracking Note (CTN) system.

The group says the Ghana Revenue Authority has once again acted in bad faith as they have been sidelined.

In an interview with Citi Business News, the National Welfare Chairman of GUTA, Benjamin Yeboah said government must look into the CTN system again.

“We are telling government that President said we should deliberate on the issue that if there should be any takeoff it should be after 15th of October and we are still in the early stages. The committee just concluded its point and the document has been sent to his Excellency. We were thinking that they will give his Excellency the chance to look at the document and those issues that were raised so we can look at it. But here you are issuing directives as to the fact that you want to start the implementation he lamented.

He added that, “It’s like their minds have been made up already before giving the committee’s answer and that is unfortunate. We expect the president to call them to order so that we can meet with his excellency and then the issue raised that we felt was not ironed out we put it across to him” he added.

The CTN requires importers and freight forwarders to provide real time information on all shipment to Ghana.

This comes at a cost of between 100 and 200 dollars depending on the size of the container being transported.

Among others, the association also say the CTN will cause delay and add up to cost of doing business, thereby frustrating importers.

They also assert CTN is not connected to any external source, hence cannot validate any data on its platform.
