I won’t campaign on Mahama’s legacy – Ricketts-Hagan

Flagbearer hopeful, Kweku Ricketts-Hagan appears very confident about his chances, going into the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearship race, as he has boldly stated he’ll not campaign on the legacies of former President John Dramani Mahama if he should emerge winner.

Mr Hagan is expected to compete with 2nd deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin; Professor Joshua Alabi; Former National Health Insurance Scheme boss Sylvester Mensah; Former Trades Minister, Spio Grabrah and former President Mahama who has officially launched his campaign and currently touring the Northern region.

Speaking in an interview with Kweku Owusu Adjei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa FM, Tuesday, the former Central Regional Minister said he will only campaign on what he intends doing for the people.

“Nobody is going to campaign on anybody’s legacy. In fact we lost an election on our legacy, the legacy that people are saying I should campaign on. So it tells you that all of us the candidates that are in the race now, nobody is going to win an election on legacy. Everyone has to come up with what they are going to do going forward.

“At least with the NPP they had not done anything, they were just saying a whole lot of things, one this, one that to win them an election. They didn’t probably have any legacy to sell but we bought into it because we were not providing any alternative” he added.

Meanwhile, former Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Kojo Bonsu, has officially joined the flagbearership race, increasing the number of contenders to thirteen (13).

In his letter of intent addressed to the General Secretary of the party, he said “It is with a sense of unwavering commitment and dedication that I submit my intention to run for the position of NDC flagbearer and to commence my publicity campaign. I do this in accordance with your announcement that those wishing to contest the upcoming NDC election should notify your office in writing.”

“I am of the belief that my broad experience as entrepreneur, businessman, corporate leader, sports administrator, life-long social democrat and public servant, can be used to make a meaningful and lasting contribution towards unifying the NDC and leading it to victory in 2020,” he stated in the letter
