Kpando (V/R), Oct. 01, GNA – An Akpokli
Education and Career Fund have been established for the people of Gadza in the
Kpando Municipality of the Volta Region, with a call on parents to consider
education as the greatest inheritance they could pass to their children.

The launching formed part of the maiden Speech
and Prize Giving Day of the 72 year old Gadza Municipal Assembly Basic School
and it is expected to improve access to basic education in the area.

Mr Kojo Addae-Mensah, Chief Executive Officer
(CEO) of Databank Ghana who launched the Fund, stressed the importance of
funding basic education, which he said was fundamental to quality secondary
education, now opened up by the Free Senior High School policy.

Togbui Kodzoga V, Chief of Kpando Gadza was
hopeful the Fund would intervene in alleviating the plight of parents in
educating their wards, and also help provide appropriate career paths for the
people.

He mentioned tuition and examination fees as
major overheads on parents in the community and pledged to uphold the Fund for
the common good.

“Citizens need to contribute their quota to
build education, and am extremely eager to help my people move up the ladder.
We must therefore ensure the Fund outlives the present and next generations,”
he stated.

Togbui Kodzoga said Gadza, sited on the east
boundary of Kpando, had large tracts of arable land, and that with sustained
investments in education, the development of the area would soon be realised.

He mentioned Databank as managers of the fund,
and would help identify fitting investment portfolios to grow the fund for
millions of people.

Togbui Kodzoga said short codes would soon be
put out to facilitate easier donations into the Fund.

Mr Bryan Acheampong, Minister of State in-
charge of National Security, donated GH¢15,000.00 to the Fund, and promised to
construct a six unit classroom block for the Gadza Basic School in memory of
one, Mr Robert Gbenge, an in-law who hailed from Kpando.

Togbe Kodzoga, together with Emu Foundation, a
Non-Governmental Organisation, also donated a six unit classroom and a canteen
to the school, whiles Union Ghana, an association of professionals promised to
support with toilet and other facilities.
