UEFA To Use VAR In Next Season’s Champions League

UEFA has confirmed that the use of Video Assistant Referees (VAR) will be introduced for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

The decision was taken at a UEFA Executive Committee meeting that took place at the House of European Football in Nyon on Thursday morning.

The top European club competition for the 2019/20 season will see the introduction of VAR at the play-off stage as well as a number of other UEFA competitions will see the use .

UEFA also confirmed that VAR will be used additionally for the 2019 UEFA Super Cup in Istanbul, as well as for UEFA EURO 2020.

Aleksander Čeferin, the President of UEFA said: “We are confident that introducing Video Assistant Referees in August 2019 will give us enough time to put in place a robust system and to train match officials to ensure an efficient and successful implementation of VAR in the UEFA Champions League, the world’s flagship club competition.”
