Kpetoe (V/R), Sept.
27, GNA – Over one thousand people are reported stranded in six communities in
the Agotime-Ziofe District following the overflow of the Tordze River.

Farms, houses and
market centres are submerged in Agorhokpo, Azametikope, Fulanikope, Kpelikope,
Akpaligakope and Adokpakope, since Monday, the Ghana News Agency gathered.

The communities have
been cut off from Kpetoe, necessitating the closure of schools because teachers
and pupils who resided outside the stated areas could not go to school.

Mr James Brown Dzikpe,
Agotime-Ziope District Director of the National Disaster Management
Organization (NADMO), said his outfit was unable to reach the victims with
relief items or evacuate them to higher grounds because they do not have boats.

He said he was in
touch with some opinion leaders in the communities whilst they waited for a
rescue team from Accra.

Continuous torrential
rains have also submerged about 24 houses sited along the river banks in Kpetoe
and displaced scores of people.

Mr Divine Bosson,
Regional Manager, NADMO, said the affected persons would receive relief items
and be given provisional shelter.
