Accra, Sept. 27
(DPA/GNA) – A 49-year-old German woman has been trampled to death by elephants
in Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools National Park, wildlife authorities said Thursday.

The woman had been
taking photos with a small group of German tourists when the attack occurred,
according to Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Authority spokesperson
Tinashe Farawo.

“The woman was
trampled upon by elephants and rushed to a local hospital, unfortunately she died
on Wednesday from injuries sustained,” Farawo told dpa. She added that she
did not know where in Germany the woman came from and was not able to provide
her name.

The tourists had been
on foot in the park, but got too close to the elephants while taking
photographs and were charged.

In 2017, 41 cases of
elephants attacking people were reported in Zimbabwe, Farawo said.

Among them was a
tourist guide who was trampled and torn apart by a bull elephant before
colleagues could come to his aid.
