A 50-year-old woman whose name was only given as Auntie Montoya is in the grips of the Saltpond Police for allegedly killing and burying her 12-year-old grandson at Mankesim in the Central Region.
An eyewitness who narrated the incident to Adom News said the suspect allegedly committed the act after accusing the deceased of disobedience.
She said the deceased’s parents brought their son to live with the suspect but months after, the suspect started subjecting the boy to inhumane treatments.
Prior to his death, the suspect is reported to have locked the boy in a room for months without food.
The boy’s death is said to have resulted from beatings received from the hands of the suspect.
After his death, the suspect, with the help of the suspect’s son, buried the body in a nearby bush.
A brother of the deceased who couldn’t hide his grandmother’s act notified the police, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
Adom News’ Kofi Adjei reports that the woman has since been remanded in police custody but the body of the boy is yet to be exhumed for further investigations into the matter.
