Susuanso, (B/A), Sept. 27, GNA – Newmont
Ghana’s Ahafo mine has since 2008 contributed over GHC60million to drive
sustainable development within its 10 host communities in the Asutifi North and
Tano North Districts of the Brong Ahafo Region.

The amount represents contributions made to
the Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF), a community foundation set up
by the Mine to drive its social responsibility obligations to the communities.

The Foundation, which marks its 10th
anniversary this year, and has so far completed and handed over more than 100
infrastructural projects to the communities including a nurses training college
and has, among others, offered educational scholarships to over 8,000 students
across all levels of the academic ladder.

Newmont contributes US$1 per each ounce of
gold sold and one percent of its net profit to the Foundation.

Speaking to journalists during a tour of some
of NADeF’s project sites, Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Mrs. Elizabeth
Opoku-Darko was hopeful that with the anticipation of future growth project at
Ahafo, more funds would accrue to the Foundation to help improve the lives of
community members.
