Alhaji Collins Dauda
Former Local Government and Rural Development Minister who is the MP for Asutifi South in the Brong Ahafo Region, Alhaji Collins Dauda, has vehemently rubbished reports that he fuelled a misunderstanding stemmed from the alleged registration of minors in his constituency.
This follows an invitation extended to him by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to assist in the investigation of allegations levelled against him by one Kenneth Donkor at Kenyasi.
The MP was said to have hired ‘macho’ men to assault the complainant during the limited voter registration exercise that took place at Kenyasi in the Asutifi North District on Friday, September 21, 2018.
Speaking to Kaakyire Kwesi Appea-Apraku, host of Dwaboase on Accra-based Power 97.9 FM on Wednesday, the lawmaker said: “I did not go to the centre to incite anybody for disturbances.”
The DCE of the area, Mr Robert Dwomoh Mensah had alleged on the show that Mr Dauda had worn “batakari” to the registration centre and fuelled the said violence.
But Mr Dauda said he was not there when the misunderstanding took place.
“It was my constituency treasurer who called to inform me of an attack. He said some NPP macho men had attacked him,” explained the MP.
He said he was only informed of the misunderstanding after it had happened, therefore he cannot be blamed for the said incident.
Meanwhile, the police say the complaints they received indicated that the MP had assigned some heavily built men to the registration centre to cause mayhem, a claim he has denied.
Mr Dauda has since reported to the Police Headquarters after receiving the invitation to investigate the alleged violent attack.
Power FM sources indicate that he was interrogated over the matter on Wednesday and handed a statement to the police.
