Abuja, Sept. 26,
(Xinhua) – Nigeria is determined to use agriculture to tackle unemployment and
grow the nation’s economy, Nigerian Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo said Tuesday.

Speaking at the annual
conference of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES) in Abuja, Osinbajo said some
of the economic focus of the administration included stabilizing the
macroeconomic environment, achieving food security, improving transportation
infrastructure and driving industrialization.

“The reasons for
prioritizing agriculture is because agriculture is a source of income for
small-scale farmers and job creation in larger farms,” he said.

“It is also a
means to generate stable foreign exchange flows to support the manufacturing
and service sectors while conserving foreign exchange that would otherwise be
spent on importing food,” Osinbajo told his audience.

He said that the
government had launched the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) focus lab
to unlock medium and large-scale investment projects.
