Cpp Upper EastThe party believes revamping the factories will create more jobs for the youth

The Upper East Regional Chairman of the Convention People’s Party, CPP, Alhaji Hussain Ibrahim, has called on President Akufo-Addo’s government to revamp all defunct factories built by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

According to him, the factories when revamped will create more jobs for the youth and contribute to his government’s ‘Ghana beyond aid’ agenda.

Alhaji Hussain Ibrahim, during a visit to the defunct Zuarungu Meat Factory in the Bolga East District to commemorate the one hundred and ninth anniversary of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, said the collapse of the factories built by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah has contributed to the high unemployment rate in the region.

Alhaji Hussain Ibrahim explained that residents in the Upper East Region are unhappy with the state of factories in the area.

“We visited the Kpalugu, Zuarungu Meat Factory and the defunct rice mills and with the state of those factories, we the CPP in the Upper East, we are not happy. We are calling on the Nana Addo government to make sure they revamp those factories, because that is the concern of most of the Upper East people, because during the time of Kwame Nkrumah, we had jobs in this country.”

“This factory has created jobs for the people in the Upper East and the closure of these factories created more unemployment in this region. So we are calling on the Nana Addo government, we don’t want rhetoric, he should live by his words that he will make sure that he builds the factories. We are not saying that he should build factories, he should revamp those factories, the structures are there even if it means partnering some investors. We want to see the factory working”he noted.

Support existing factories to expand first -Nduom

The President and Chairman of GN Group of companies, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has urged government to partner with existing local factories to ensure the success of the one district one factory initiative.

According to him, the government can do this by supporting existing factories to expand, and boost their capacities to employ more people.

Dr. Nduom said, bringing new factories onboard is good but they do not have the expertise the existing ones do.

“We can’t do it by bringing new entities. It won’t work. They don’t have the experience. It should be on the back of those who are there already,” he said at the 2018 edition of the Ghana Economic Forum on Wednesday which had the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in attendance.

Nana Addo will soon commission more ‘1D 1F’ projects – Alan

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen, has said government’s plan to facilitate the construction factories in every district is very much on course.

Addressing the chief and people of Gomoa Oyaandze in the Central Region over the weekend, Mr. Kyerematen noted that very soon, President Nana Akufo-Addo will be traveling across the country commissioning factories under the One District, One Factory initiative.

“Almost every week, the President will commission one factory. Ghanaians will see that they have a leader who is not in office to deceive them,” he assured.
