Nsueam (W/R), September 21, GNA – An illegal
miner, who allegedly murdered his fifty year-old mother has been nabbed by the
Nsueam District Police Command of the Western Region.

The suspect, Augustine Armah, 20, was said to
have smacked the mother with a pestle.

Superintendent of Police, Jonas Kofi Agbevam,
Nsueam District Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an
interview that, the deceased, Kyere Aso, a petty trader, lives with her son in
Wassa Simpa, a suburb of Tarkwa.

He said the deceased and the son had petty
squabbles between them and it was alleged that Aso cursed her son Armah that he
would never be able to marry any woman.

Superintendent Agbevam said, the suspect who
is unemployment due to the ban on small scale mining by the government has been
scavenging for a lady to settle down with so that she could be his companion,
but all yielded no result.

He said Armah attributed his plight to his
mother’s pronouncement of curses on him.

He said in the late hours of Friday September
14, 2018, a similar quarrel ensued between them and the deceased repeated the
same utterances.

Superintendent Agbevam revealed that Armah who
was under the influence of alcohol went to the deceased and pleaded with her to
revoke the curse on him.

According to him, Aso declined his request and
this provoked Armah who went for a pestle and smacked her on the neck and
bolted.

He said the deceased screamed for help and
some neighbours rushed to her aid, and quickly sent her to the Dompim health
centre, but she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The District commander said the police was
informed around 2200 hours and the body was deposited at the Apinto government
hospital morgue pending autopsy.

The police arrested Armah on the same day from
his hideout and he is in police custody, with investigation ongoing.
