NPP suspends Nadowli/Kaleo constituency chairman

The Upper West Regional Executive Committee of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended the Constituency Chairman for Nadowli/Kaleo Mr Martin Andonye.

Mr Andonye’s suspension followed the petitioning of the Upper West Regional Disciplinary Committee by the party’s 2016 parliamentary candidate in the Nadowli/Kaleo constituency, Elvis Botah who was suspended by the now suspended Chairman.

“Following a petition by some members of the NPP in the Nadowli/Kaleo constituency, the Regional Executive Committee in accordance with Article 4(3) (a) of the constitution submitted the complaint to the regional Disciplinary Committee. In order to ensure fair and justice, the Regional Executive Committee in accordance with Article (3) (1) of the constitution, suspend you from holding your office as the constituency chairman of the Nadowli/Kaleo constituency, pending an inquiry into your conduct by the regional Disciplinary Committee,” the suspension letter read in part.

“We are of the opinion that this action is in the best interest of the party and will lead to a proper resolution of the matter. We urge you to cooperate with the Disciplinary committee to ensure a speedy enquiry into this matter,” the letter added.

The disciplinary committee further stated in a statement signed by the Upper West Regional Chairman of the NPP,  S. B Kangberee, that it noted that, the suspended Chairman has been disregarding party structures adding that they are not ready to tolerate such act any longer.

“The chairman’s continuous disregard for party structure and failure to consult the Regional Executive Committee in such important disciplinary matters can no longer be tolerated. By this letter, we are serving notice to the Chairman that, the purported revocation and subsequent appointment of other persons into their offices are in contravention of the NPP constitution. We as a Regional Executive committee hereby declare the revocation of such officers as illegal and arbitrary and therefore void” the statement noted.

The statement further indicated all officers who were suspended by the said chairman still remain as party members and should work for the growth of the party.

Meanwhile, the Regional Executives in a communique issued and signed by the Regional Communication Director, Bukari Ali quashed the suspension of the party’s 2016 parliamentary candidate for the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency, Mr Elvis Banoemuleng Botah.

Mr Banoemuleng Botah was suspended indefinitely some few weeks ago over what the constituency disciplinary committee described as gross constitutional breaches, gross misconduct, insubordination and disrespect of party elders on the part of the former aspirant.  – Morris  Banaamwine
