The chief of Kumasi-Boadi and founder of Platinum Events Productions Africa, Nana Amaniapong II has disclosed that his outfit is close to sealing a deal with a Spanish La Liga club for a friendly against Kumasi Asante in May 2019.
Nana Amaniapong in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb TV explained that the game will form part of activities to mark the 20th Anniversary celebrations of Otumfuo Osei Tutu as the King of Asanteman.
Nana Amaniapong who appeared tightlipped on the name of the club assured supporters of Kotoko and the people of Asanteman that his agency is determined to bring one of the top 3 Spanish clubs to Ghana to honour Otumfuo for his remarkable leadership in the past 20 years.
He confirmed that officials of the said club came into the country to hold meetings with Kotoko but deny media reports that the officials were from FC Barcelona.
“I can’t give you a 100 per cent commitment on the match but we have engaged a very prestigious Spanish club in who were here to engage Kotoko for the Otumfour Cup which will come on in May 2019. So for all intent and purposes, there are negotiations going to have a match but as to who Kotoko will be playing we will keep it out for now”.
He added that: We are not hiding it from the public but we cannot officially confirm that Kotoko and Barcelona will be playing but what I can say is that there has been an arrangement between us and a very prestigious club in Spain to play Kumasi Asante Kotoko to honour the King Otumfuo Osei Tutu”.
There have been widespread rumours that the 23-time league champions will engage a Spanish giants FC Barcelona in a friendly in Match 2019. The rumours were fueled by an alleged meeting between General Manager of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, George Amoako and representatives of Barcelona. The reports were however rubbished by George Amoako and people close to the club.
