Trump says China is trying to affect US elections by using retaliatory tariffs
against farming and manufacturing – sectors whose employees are more likely to
support Trump and his trade policies.
“China has openly stated that they are
actively trying to impact and change our election by attacking our farmers,
ranchers and industrial workers because of their loyalty to me,” Trump
said Tuesday in a tweet.
China does not understand that those
supporters “fully understand that China has been taking advantage of the
United States on trade for many years,” Trump said. “They also know
that I am the one that knows how to stop it.”
Trump threatened “great and fast economic
retaliation against China” if US farmers, ranchers and industrial workers
are targeted.
