Abidjan, Sept 18, (AIP) – Ivorian Prime
Minister Amadou Gon Coulibaly has been talking about negotiations on the reform
of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) after the next election to be held
on 13 October 2018.

This is in accordance with the commitments
made by the Head of the ‘State in his message of August 06 to recompose the
election management body for the presidential elections in 2020.

“After the next municipal and regional
poll to be held on October 13, 2018, as decided at the Council of Ministers on
July 18, 2018, well before the message to the nation of the Head of State, the
government will initiate consultations with the political class on this
issue.”

He was speaking to local and international
journalists in Abidjan.

The Prime Minister expressed his surprise at
the ongoing debate on the reform of the commission.

“I do not even see the point of this
debate,” he said, adding that the debate on the reform in relation to
local elections “is pointless”.

He applauded the Head of State for steps taken
to accelerate the process of national reconciliation, consolidate peace, build
a united and strong Ivorian nation.
