Accra, Sept. 13, GNA – The Ghana Tourism
Authority, under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture
would be celebrating the 2018 World Tourism Day (WTD) in Kwahu.
The United Nations’ sanctioned WTD is
celebrated annually by member countries across the world on September 27. It is
to highlight the potential of tourism as a valuable source of livelihood for
millions of people among the member countries.
The theme for this year‘s celebration as
stated in a release issued to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday in Accra, is
“Tourism and the digital transformation”.
It said in Ghana, the national celebration
would be held in Kwahu and would be followed immediately with a Corporate
Paragliding festival dubbed “Fun and Fly”.
The three day event from Friday, September 28
to Sunday, September 30, would be held at the usual Odweanoma Mountain at Kwehu
Atibie. Seven seasoned international tandem pilots from the USA and Switzerland
would be flying passengers during the event. Also flying solo are two Ghanaian
pilots, Michael Kwakye and Jonathan Quaye.
It said the programme of activities for the
celebration of the WTD on September 27, include a Symposium at the Presbyterian
University, Abetifi, Kwahu and a durbar of Chiefs at the Abetifi Palace.
“On September 28, there will be an opening
ceremony of the “Fun and Fly” corporate paragliding at the Odweanoma Mountain
and the commissioning of the newly constructed food court, after which the
paragliding night begins”.
According to the release, the Ghana Cyclist
Association has also partnered GTA to organise a “King of the Mountain”
competition between cyclist from Ghana, Cote d’lvoire, Togo, Benin, Nigeria and
It is expected that due to the expansion of
the take-off site and provision of washrooms and sitting area for guests, a lot
of corporate organisations would participate in this important event to relieve
them of some stressful schedules at their respective work places.
