Kroboline (W/R), Sept. 13, GNA – The Member of
Parliament for Ellembelle, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has challenged
stakeholders in education to focus on support to teachers in rural areas.
The call forms part of measures to ensure good
quality education delivery in the country, especially in rural Ghana.
The MP made the call when he presented a
cheque for 10,000 Ghana cedis to teachers in the northern part of the Ellembele
Constituency.
Mr Buah had earlier promised to motivate
teachers who were reluctant to accept postings to these hard to reach areas of
the District with an annual package.
He said he had carried out a lot of
interventions in the area ranging from healthcare facilities, electricity
extension, and road networks among other things adding that he was passionate
about education, especially in the rural areas.
He said; ‘’I think that we need to do more
when it comes to education, and I am very optimistic that with the measures we
are putting in place, we will soon witness more qualified trained teachers
being posted to the Aiyinasi North.”
Mr Buah said this would increase enrolment and
attendance and improve educational facilities to enhance the quality of
education in the area, which would subsequently lead to academic performance.
The MP also pledged to support untrained
teachers to upgrade themselves in to enhance the quality of teaching.
Mr Lawer Benedict, the Head Teacher of
Kroboline D/A Primary, commended the MP for the gesture adding: “Your
commitment to education for the rural poor over the years is so exemplary and
keeps us motivated.”
He mentioned the lack of school buildings and
teaching and learning materials as some of the challenges of the District.
He, however, assured the MP of their continued
support to see to the realisation of his vision of improved access and quality
education in the remote part of Ellembele.
Other educational interventions that the MP
engaged in to improve on academic performance are conducting special mock
examination for BECE candidates, supplying Mathematical sets for them,
registering students for Nov/Dec Exams, supplying of dual tasks to schools and
paying of school fees, especially for tertiary students.
He also donated 150 dual desks to Kroboline
D/A and Kwasikrom primary and junior high schools and provided scholarship
opportunities for master’s degree programmes in oil and gas and other related
courses.
