Efforts by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to reorganise itself into a formidable party ready to reclaim power from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been put into jeopardy as two of its stalwarts in the Ashanti Region face-off in court over defamation suit.
Ambassador Daniel Ohene-Agyekum, the National Campaign Coordinator for John Dramani Mahama for election 2020 and Alhaji Sani, astute politician cum businessman and godfather of the former deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Joseph Yamin, are expected to battle their case out in the Kumasi High Court in the coming days.
Ambassador Daniel Ohene-Agyekum, the Plaintiff, filed the suit against Alhaji Sani and two other Kumasi-based radio stations, Kessben FM and Nhyira FM, for defamation of his character during the run-up to the regional executive elections of the NDC.
The Diplomats and his team were allegedly campaigning against Yamin, urging delegates to vote for an Akan.
Alhaji Sani, a former Vice Chair of the NDC, who was not enthused with that campaign strategy confronted Ambassador Ohene-Agyekum and in the process, went on the two radio stations to pass certain comments which the later considered such to have defamed his character, hence the suit.
He is therefore praying to the court to pronounce judgment in his favour and award him some money for the injuries he has suffered on his reputation as a result of the alleged defamatory comments.
He is also demanding an apology from the defendants for the alleged defamatory comments.
